Yesterday was a great day!
Lonewolf came over for a visit and, of course, we showed him mega64. I'm thinking I want to buy the first season on DVD.
We all went out to Rossi's for late lunch/early dinner. It's one of two or three actual non-fast-food restaurants in town here and they serve some excellent Italian. They had the stuffed shells with spinach special again so I opted for that since I passed on it last time. After dinner we all had the canoli and oh was it delicious. It's hard to find a good canoli around here!
Then we returned to our place and caught Lonewolf up to speed on Wallace & Gromit before we apicked up Seeker and all went to the late show of Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The trouble with W&G is that the earlier shorts are very subtle and focused more on the wonders of claymation since, at the time, that was amazing work. These days, the wonder of that animation is lost on a culture used to what Pixar and DreamWorks accomplishes what seems to be perennially.
Curse of the Were-Rabbit was excellent, and even though the earlier shorts seemed to bore Lonewolf he loved the movie. The animation was so much smoother, and I have to assume it was due to some rendering between stop-motion frames. It was a nice blend of old-school and modern. The plot was also more involved and the comedy more developed than the previous shorts. There was even a spot of adult humor but not to the normal, over-the-top, in-your-face extent that American comedy typically goes to. It was very subtle and in good taste.
After the movie, Lonewolf and Seeker headed home, as did the two of us. We watched Saturday Night Live and Ashley Simpson was back. She spoke before and after her performances in an obvious attempt to display that she wasn't faking it this time. Otherwise the music was, well, bleck! I've found lately that the comedy on SNL has improved. They've got a half-decent cast this time around so I actually don't mind catching it from time to time. They even have a few good musical acts, too.
After that I whipped out the 2600. I played a few games while Kathy surfed the net. Then we played a few competitive games of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. That was so much fun! We eventually went to bed around 4 am and just now got up in time for her to go to work. Lately I've been enjoying my weekends. For the first time in about a year or so we actually have our weekends free so we can sleep in. Yay!
