I've had a good couple days but it seems others aren't doing so well. My wishes for speedy recovery go out to [livejournal.com profile] canongrrl and [livejournal.com profile] javagirle. Get well soon!

And happy birthday to Kathy!

We spent her birthday hanging out with Ray. It was quite nice. He brought over Power Grid, Maharaja and Twilight Imperium. We only just glanced at Twilight Imperium. It's a huge freaking game but lookslike fun. It looks like a cross between Cosmic Encounters and Battlefleet Gothica. We played a great three-player game of Power Grid. I have to say that once again Friedmann Friese has created a spectacular game that is engaging and fun involving a good deal of strategy and screwing with the other players. We played the US side of the board but we're thinking next time we'll play Europe. This is a game that Kathy and I will most likely buy if we ever get the extra spending cash to invest in some games. Then we played Maharaja. Ray said he read a lot of rave reviews about it but we were all in agreement that it wasn't so wonderful. It wasn't bad, but it just seemed a little slow and dull at times. It was still fun, just not all that engaging. The game didn't really draw you in and it seemed a little too easy to build up avenues to pass around to the various cities and accomplish things. Not nearly as much of a challenge as Power Grid.

Kathy also bought Kathy Xactica and the book "Bloodsucking Fiends" by Christopher Moore for her birthday. That was super cool! He also bought me a copy of "Ender's Game" which I must say I am intrigued enough to want to read it after reading Josh's review and hearing Ray speak of it. Now I can. Thanks Ray! Kathy and I played Xactica later on her birthday. It's an interesting card game where losing is just as important a part of the strategy as winning. You actually have to force yourself to lose in order to win, if you can fathom that. And it didn't take very long to learn, either. I like that: simple game rules that lead to complex gameplay.

Today was a work day, but only a little work. My tax refunds still haven't comein but that's okay. Glenn at Apple2Stuff was very kind to help me out with sending me the necessary software for my Gatorbox. I was able to access it tonight and it works just fine. Yay! Thanks Glenn! I got to spend some time hanging out with Bert. He and Cardi and the kids are probably moving out of state by the end of the year. That's a bummer but they really want to get out of state and go somewhere that doesn't have snow and wintery weather for 6 months out of the year. I guess I can't blame them for that. Kathy and I had a nice lunch at the new restaurant in Plymouth, Mitch's. It replaced Jiggers and I have to say it is so much better. And they do Diamond Nail Rings that are to die for (fried onion and green pepper rings, mmmm).

Tomorrow (or rather today at this point) I am going to Concord to pick up a new CPAP mask. Kathy will also be getting a photo ID finally, so no longer will she be confused as a potential terrorist that could blow up a plane or vote for someone other than G. W. Bush. Although she's still going to vote for someone other than Bush. So I guess that makes her a terrorist. But anyway, she'll be a card-carrying member of the US. Later in the night we're going to do dinner and hang out with Jon, Kirsten, Paul and Jenny. Coolness.

By the way, what was up with Bush's statements regarding Iran?! We're not attacking them, but all options are on the table? WTFMFWTFAYT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I really hope my tax returns come in tomorrow morning. I really don't want to drive up to Plymouth to get my check before I drive down to Concord. I do enough driving.
