Gaming, Geeking and Guitar
Feb. 20th, 2005 12:50 pmLast night was a treasure. Macdo and Judy held a Werewolf LARP on campus and a bunch of us PSU Gaming Club alum got together for the first time in seemingly forever. Matty O was there. Shawn was there. Pat was, too. Big Will was there. Justin, though he can usually still be found hanging about at Gaming Club meetings.
I so missed them all, especially Matt. He's a fellow former President of the club and I was very fortunate to have him on as my VP during his last semester. We've had a lot of good times. And now I have his cell phone number. Sweet. He and I had fun with the newbie in the club. She was obviously very attracted to Mat. I can't say that I blame her. He's a very sexy guy in attitude and appearance. But she kept saying things that were very easily distorted into innuendos, so we capitalized in old-school fashion. We all had fun.
Will is living right down the road from me now, so I should be making more of an effort to visit him. Apparently his dad died recently so he and Ann moved in with his mom to assume the mortgage on her home and help her out.
Shawn surprised me beyond belief. First, he was the most shocked (though everyone else was very impressed) with my weight loss. Not only was he very impressed but he was so glad to see I was no longer pushing 400 pounds. I have to say that I really enjoyed getting tospend time with Shawn. The years have been kind to him, as has moving away from Plymouth and living in Portsmouth. I really enjoyed getting to know him again. He's definitely much easier to interact with than he was in college. And more mature.
Pat is doing well. He's still back with his parents for now but he's planning to ake a move to Portsmouth soon. It seems a lot of my friends from Gaming Club are moving there. That's where Matt plans to go soon, too. Pat is such an awesome guy with a heart of gold. I hope moving to Portsmouth works out well for him. He's really enjoying cooking for a living.
While everyone LARPed, I was getting a little bored. I went out to the van and grabbed Barby, my $19 beater classical guitar that I keep in the van for such times. I went and hung out with the new crowd at Gaming Club while they all (yes practically the whole freaking club!) sat arround six abutting tables and played a massive D&D 3rd Ed game with that new Ultimate Dungeon book. It was quite amusing. And I ended up playing guitar accompaniment to the game just like old times. It was quite amusing for us all. I think it all started with me playing the Super Mario theme during a break. Then when Nick (the GM) mentioned "the room is pitch black and you hear *insert awful screech here*" I did the cliche silent-movie style ascending diminished seventh chords of impending doom. Laughter busted out and must rejoicing was had. The rest was downhill. I was offered plenty of free food, but mostly I just took a couple KitKats.
After the meeting all of us old-schoolers and the one newbie went down to Hong Kong Garden for the traditional post-LARP meal and banter. It was so awesome. We talked, swapped numbers, had a feast, enjoyed giving and receiving a hard time to/from the waitress who's usually on Saturday nights. She's a blast, but I digress. After the meal we still hung around in the freeze-your-nuts-off cold outside the restaurant. Some college kid started pissing on the side of the restaurant so we had to point it out. At this point is was something like 1 AM. Matt started shouting "Oh my God! What a massive cock! Oh, I'm not talking about yours, though. I mean mine." The pissing kids friends started cautioning him that we were checking him out and Matt was flirting with him. Then as he came back up the street past us Matt turns to him and says "Hey, you've got a sweet ass, man." I love Matt. Kathy and I left for home while Matt, Shawn, Macdo and newbie all headed up to Langdon Park to enjoy a pack of 30s and the woods one last time before the university tears the woods down later this year to construct north campus.
At home, and by this time it's around 4 AM, I decided to get my SCSI Zip drive working on my Mac SE. I so did it. I found an old copy of the Iomega Zip Package v4.2 from Mac Driver Museum and downloaded it onto my iMac. I them copied it to floppy and broght it over to the SE, installed it and right away without restart it was able to see, read and eject the disk. I love Mac OS! And so an SE running system 7.1 is now Zip enabled and I can easily swap info on my two Macs even after I return the USB floppy to work. Now I just need to get the thing running on the network and I'm set.
I think I've finally gotten over my aversion to White Wolf. Kathy and Macdo had come up with an amusing concept for a Red Talon folk singer who sings all kinds of songs about hating the humans and how they hurt Gaia and such. I've decided I could get into that character, complete with guitar-playing abilities. So I'm going to give it a shot. We'll be making a character this week sometime and I've already started one song. Here are the chorus lyrics, though this will probably be a rare performance song considering the outright anti-human, violent encouragement of breaking the Litany and such:
"Kill a human, kill a human.
The only way they're good is with chili and cumin.
I know its wrong and we should just eat cows,
but ask me later and I'll tell you how."
Yes, it's supposed to be morbid and humorous. I'm sure those of you reading this and who know the whole White Wolf thing understand the humor. I hope.
*Disclaimer: I don't actually personally believe in cannibalism or killing humans. I just plan to play someone who does in a LARP. It's called make-believe. *
