I'm probably going to go to church for the first time in a very long time.

I've been thinking about Unitarian Universalism since [profile] quantumswordsmn and [profile] chenoachem talked me into attending a UU service at their former church in Nashua. It seemed all fine and well, but at the time I wasn't interested in going to church every Sunday. To be honest, I'm still not, but I think it's time for me to do it for a couple of reasons. For the past couple of months I've been thinking about it as a means to bring me more into the community, to find a sense of belonging. I also think I could use it if for nothing more than some grounding and some help in finding my spiritual center since I don't have others readily available to help me with that anymore.

What really made up my mind was that the local fellowship submitted a DVD for cablecast about Unitarian Universalism. I listened to it and did some web surfing and reading up on UU and decided that I agree with just about everything (except the every Sunday going to church, but I'm willing to compromise) so it would be worth the socialization and building up community connections to go and find my spiritual center perhaps.

I think I'm ready for this. I could use all the help I can get.

"the every Sunday going to church"

One of the great things is that no one will think any less if you don't go every week. It is there when you need or want it. If you decide to go for a walk in the woods instead that is good too.

Some of the reasons you state are some of the things I was looking for. A sense of community without a pressure to believe anything in particular. The tennants are things you can follow no matter what your belief center is. I learned a lot from people.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Thank you. :)

I think it's the community and the freedom of particular faith that appeals to me right now. I really feel I need that connection and guidance, especially given everything else going on. Thanks also to you and Steve for inviting me to go to church with you a couple years ago. I don't think I would even be going tomorrow if it hadn't been for the two of you.

I hope you find what you are looking for. I look forward to see how you view that congregation. They all vary. That is part of the interest. The UU churches change based on what the congregation wants.
hey this actually has nothing to do with your post but I was just wondering what was going on with the NHCCM I've been looking at the website and there has been no change in date for the next meeting or workshop... I just wanted to go to the meetings, but have no idea when it is and How have you been, I've been reading your LJ obviously but otherwise, sounds like your doing good without me there in Plymouth, heh speaking of which how is Plymouth these days I will try to make it up there one of these days to help out or whatnot.
Yeah, the website hasn't changed because the host company sucks. I'm currently in the process of changing hosts. We just were approved with ThinkHost so as soon as our account is activated, I'll be migrating the site and swapping the DNS. The next NHCCM meeting is actually a workshop on Thursday, October 18 at 10:00 am in Bedford.

I'm doing well enough. Plymouth has changed for sure. It's certainly different than it used to be. We can talk more when next we see each other. So what have you been up to?
