It was a day of accomplishments. It was a day.

Now that Kathy has photo ID, we were able to oficially put her name on the PO Box and the savings account. That felt really good. I renewed the PO Box while at the post office. The tax returns came in as expected. Things were good.

I went to work and did a bunch of updates to the bulletin board. PowerPoint was doing the stupid edit mode over the running slide show again when I got in, which as far as I can figure has to do with low virtual memory because that's when it seems to happen.

Then I went to work at PDG and we started the process of moving clients over to our new server. We switched hosting facilities because a) we were tired of Plesk and not to fond of using Fedora on a hosting server (way too many frequent changes), b) our previous facility shut down our server due to the compromise but never even bothered to alert us and c) they provide absolutely no support for dedicated servers beyond reimaging. I spent a short amount of time reconfiguring the Gallery skin for one of our clients. The rest of my time was spent uplaoding and restoring databases, as well as reconfiguring online stores. Rox brought in a bunch of old computer stuff she didn't want any more and so I got another Mac serial cable, a SCSI cable, yet another AppleTalk box and a SCSI Zip drive. Yay! Now all the computers currently running in my apartment have zip drives. I'm not sure how exactly that's useful yet beyond enabling me to transfer files between my iMac and SE aside from the network, but I'm sure at some point it will be handy. What if the network fails, right?

I did laundry. Clean laundry is good. While at the laundry there was a Dukes of Hazzard marathon that began with a documentary on the show. That was fun. It occurs to me that I'm doing the whole Hemingway short sentence thing again. Sorry.

I installed the Seagate 9GB hard drive in the old Apple Hard Disk 20SC case, which felt good and geeky. I mean, to put a modern SCSI hard drive in place of an old 5.25" 20MB hard drive and then hook it up to a little SE is just plain, well, silly. I partitioned it using a patched version of Apple HD SC Setup 7.3.5 so it would be able to recognize and initialize a non-Apple drive. Apple recommends partitioning the drive into chunks at least 1MB smaller than 2GB due to a hard limitation with system 7.1 (doesn't sound like a "hard limitation" to me, but whatever). I did this, but I am having symptoms that indicate the partitions are too big. It tells me there isn't enough room to copy files even though there's plenty of room. And it's misreporting the partition size. I used 1024MB per GB, 1024 KB per MB. I wonder if they do everything in nice round numbers? That would be wrong but I've heard there's some inconsistency with older technology in that some manufacturers actually did make a MB 1000K, etc. I'll try something safe like 1GB chunks instead.

Kathy and I started watching "Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla" but I couldn't stop nodding off. It was 2AM after all. I have to admit I am feeling much better now that I have a new CPAP mask. And this one is so great! I don't have any of the leakage problems I had with my old mask. Very comfortable and effective. I've been waking up well rested again. This morning was uncomfortable, though, because I woke up bloated with gas. I chalk it up to my piss-poor eating habits as of late. I'm back to eating healthy from now on, especially where I no longer have an uphill battle against my metabolism due to poor sleeping conditions.

Peace out, yo. I'm off to cook some eggs, drink some water, chug some fiber and do something. Probably goof around with the SE before I have to go film the "welcome home troops" ceremony at the high school this afternoon.
