For a while Kathy and I have discussed tiny living and getting rid of more possessions. One of the topics that came up is my massive collection of music CDs, how to better store them so the collection is more compact, and if there might be more CDs with which I could part. After listening to CDs at work on Saturday and realizing I kept the Damn Yankees CD but really don't much care for it anymore, I decided I would listen to every single CD in my collection (with few exceptions) and purge the discs that I really just don't enjoy anymore. Certain bands are off limits because we agree we like every album of theirs that we have, such as Pink Floyd and Jim's Big Ego. These are albums we listen to frequently enough to keep without listening.
And so today it begins. I'm listening and purging the music I just don't like. This will take a few days, but I plan to post the results of each day of listening, which discs I kept, and which discs I purged. This also forces me to actually listen to all of this music instead of just collecting it. Some of these discs haven't been touched in years, and that's a shame. If we're not going to listen to them, we may as well send them to a more appreciative new home!
