Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day. I'm looking forward to it with great anticipation! I have been asked by one of my public access users to help him engineer his new disc and possibly lay down some vocal and guitar parts. His music is horror rap, which is not something I've ever done before, so it will be an interesting change, especially after so long away from actual recording and engineering. Mind you I have little engineering experience but my final project for Multi-Track Hard Disc Recording in college was used as a shining example for future students. I was honored and quite surprised to learn I apparently have a natural talent for audio engineering. I just like making music and making it sound as good as I can.

So tomorrow I will be engineering for rap. I've never done that and it's a different sound than the rock and funk and folk that I'm used to working with in my limited experience. I'm reading a bunch of material tonight on proper EQ so I can refresh my memory since it's been well over five years since I've touched much EQ. I'm most likely going to keep things very simple: a little compression here and there, a little reverb especially on vocals and some touching up of spot frequencies to give the sound some body and presence. I imagine I'll be doing a lot with the low end to really give the beats some power.

I'm actually pretty darn giddy. It's been far too long!
