Kathy and I showed up for a day of games yesterday on campus. We ended up playing on campus now that G&G is closed. I will say it was nice to not have as far to drive, but still a part of me is sad that there will never be another game day at G&G.
While we waited for Ray to show up we played Reinier Knizia's Amazing Flea Circus. It was a cute little filler game. It was very simple and still fun. It's definitely a good family or children's game with a bit of toy factor. Ray showed up halfway through.
After that we played Parthenon: The Rise of the Aegean. We decided to go for the short game variant (still two hours!) where you start at the beginning of year two with all of your villages and one of your workshops built. It's a good risk management game but it's absolutely demoralizing. You spend the whole game trying to ship goods around so you can trade them to build bigger and better advancements, but due to the hazards associated with shipping goods you spend the whole game feeling like you're being beaten upon. It's very brutal.
After that we decided to go for easy and light, so we played Citadels with the Dark City expansion. We ended up replacing more than half the roles with the expansion roles. I felt bad for Kathy because she kept picking the role that was targeted by the Assassin, so she barely got to play anything.
By this time everyone had to leave so we headed home for dinner. After dinner we ended up playing Robo Rally with Lonewolf and Seeker. I found a tricky scenario in the rulebook that had the flags moving on conveyor belts. Since I'd long wanted to try a scenario like that, we did it. It was certainly a challenge but it was a lot of fun. Since the flags follow the conveyors until they fall into the center pit (and come back next phase) there were a few instances when things got close to the pit and robots fell in. I think we all fell in at least once, but Seeker ended up down to his last life.
