Thursday we rented Pan's Labyrinth to watch with Melanie. We watched it again last night with Ang. What an incredible movie! Not only was it visually stunning, but also it had a great story and plenty to think over. I won't go into any detail here so as to not spoil it, but I definitely recommend it. Have a box of tissues handy. You'll need them.
I was surprised at how much of it I actually understood without subtitles. I guess my Spanish is not nearly as rusty as I thought. I hope I didn't annoy Kathy and Ang too much by once in a while correcting the subtitles. :P
We spent Thursday night hanging out with Melanie watching some interesting movies. First Pan's Labyrinth, which I had to leave about 10 minutes before the end. Melanie cooked us very tasty burgers and I had mine with chipotle cheddar and jalapeno mustard. Yummy! When I returned from work Melanie and Kathy were just finishing up some odd B-movie about aliens chasing people down because they stole some gold from a cave. It had Richard Hatch (played Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica) in it and it's too bad, because he's a decent actor but it really was a horrible movie. Apparently the movie wasn't nearly as bad as the one Melanie and Kathy watched while I was at work, but...
Then we watched a Chinese "horror" movie called Painting Ghost. It was about a painting of a house that was owned by this creepy goth undead woman that had the ghost of a woman killled by her lover and went around eating peoples' heads off while the creepy goth undead woman stood outside making funny faces. Oh, and did I mention it was kinda softcore? It made for some very amusing death scenes.
Yesterday Kathy and I visited Ang to watch movies and play games. On the way down we stopped at Lucky Dragon in Ashland and had lunch. We really enjoy it because they have menu items that you don't find at any other Asian restaurant in the area. We had the house special mei fun and thai mango chicken. Mmmmmmmmmm. We got to Ang's house and got to hang out and visit with her Mom. Her Mother is a very sweet person and incredibly nice. We also got to meet Ang's little cousin. He's very active.
We ended up playing Carcassonne (I remembered to bring it this time!) and Kathy, after complaining the whole time that Ang was going to beat us again, took the biggest farm in the game and won by a huge stretch. After Carcassonne we watched some of season 2 of Venture Bros. and laughed our asses off. I fell asleep during the nonsense episode and apparently when I awoke confused I was perhaps less confused than Ang and Kathy. *shrugs* It's probably a good thing I fell asleep! *laugh* By then it was time for dinner. Ang's Mom cooked a delicious baked ziti dinner for us with salad and bread. Very tasty!
After dinner we watched Pan's Labyrinth and there were tears. But it was an excellent movie and definitely goes on the must-own list. Ang also loaned us "I Feel Sick" by Jhonen Vasquez and the complete Aeon Flux collection. Coolies! We loaned her V for Vendetta so she could watch and enjoy.
All in all, it was a great start to a long weekend! Well, a long wekend for me. Kathy ended up having to work this weekend. :(
