On Thursday night, Michael D. Brown, the federal government's point man for managing the response to Hurricane Katrina, made a remarkable confession on live television.

Speaking of the thousands stranded at the convention center in New Orleans without food or water, Mr. Brown said that his agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, had just learned of their plight.

CNN's Paula Zahn was incredulous. "Sir," she said, "you aren't just telling me you just learned that the folks at the convention center didn't have food and water until today, are you? You had no idea they were completely cut off?"

"Paula," Mr. Brown replied unequivocally, "the federal government did not even know about the convention center people until today."

Apparently our own government doesn't watch the news, because I, much like the rest of astute Americans, knew this very soon after landfall.

Nine stockpiles of fire-and-rescue equipment strategically placed around the country to be used in the event of a catastrophe still have not been pressed into service in New Orleans, CNN has learned.

Department of Homeland Security spokesman Marc Short said Friday the gear has not been moved because none of the governors in the hurricane-ravaged area has requested it.

Hmmm. I guess the pleas that the Governor of Louisiana and Mayor of New Orleans made for any and all help from the Federal government weren't specific enough for them. Perhaps our Federal government requires a game of Simon Says or Red Rover to get help in case of a major disaster? This scenario seems to remind me of a certain Vogon Constructor Fleet incident...

I was amazed on how long it took the President to make a statement. He seemed a little anoyed that it interfered with his vacation in Texas. I can't believe that a lot of other countries are offering help, and the president (from what I have heard last) still hasn't officially accepted or denied. With the gas prices I would say we could use the extra oil people are offering.

Yeah, the fact he even went on vacation in the first place KNOWING a category five hurricane was on its way was just plain arrogant and inconsiderate.

can't you see? they are getting rid of peverty by killing them all off, only to replace them by a NEW poverty, caused by the rising price of oil...

nah, I'm just being a doomsayer.. but really..

Oh, I'm not at all surprised. I realize this is a matter of the administration hoping to get rid of the "less desirables." I'm not surprised, just angry. And hoping the rest of America gets angry enought to do something and make some real change for sake!
