Does anyone know enough about living in New York City (especially the Manhattan/Central Park area) to offer advice on the best areas to live? [livejournal.com profile] painted_wolf is looking at the PhD program at the AMNH and we're looking into places to live. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My best friend - [livejournal.com profile] ggirl - works at the AMNH, and she has found a lot of good apartments in the Astoria area of Queens. I don't think it's as close as Manhattan, but it's definitely cheaper...and it's all connected by rail.

You can contact her here and tell her you're one of my oldest friends if you like.

I'll definitely get in touch with her! Right now we're starting to look at other schools and there's a possibility Kathy may apply for a school in Amherst, MA, too. It'll be nice to have [livejournal.com profile] ggirl and my cousin Jason to provide us insight from their perspective of already being there! Thanks for the suggestion! :D

Don't live in Manhattan too expensive... another thought might be living in Hoboken NJ Thats what Beths brother does he commutes to wall street area everyday... and the Path train connects you right to midtown and the subway... that is if you didn't want to go to one of the other boroughs...
