mandysee_mandydo: (Transgender)
The Nashua Telegraph has been running a series of great articles that take a positive and informative view of transgender issues. Unfortunately they have taken a lot of heat from some people in the Nashua area that feel the articles are trash and transgendered people are deviants or perverts, which is ludicrous. In response, the Telegraph is running a poll on their website to determine if it's worth continuing the stories. Please take a moment to visit the Nashua Telegraph web site and let them know that the articles are important and they should keep printing them. The poll is toward the bottom of the front page in the middle.

I voted. :)

It's good to see almost 60% in support of the articles. I understand that for some folks they are just in the wrong body type. If they had a choice for a do over they would switch one set of parts for another set. Ever read the 'Left hand of Darkness' by Ursula K. Le Guin? *searches for copy in mom's library*

Me? I was born on the wrong planet. I love Earth for all its wonderful animals, scenery, disgruntled natives, breathable atmosphere, and so on. But I'd really like a planet with a FTL (Faster Then Lightdrive) for better planetary exploration.

Thanks for voting! :)

I've not read that book. I shall have to do so when I get a chance. Thanks also for the recommendation!

Yes, better space exploration would be wonderful. I bet the government refuses to fund NASA appropriately because they fear we'll all just say "So long and thanks for all the fish!" and take off to start anew on another planet.

When I went, the poll had moved to the bottom right, in the grey sidebar, at the very bottom of the page. This might be the tiny screen resolution on my laptop talking, but still.

Also, I posted a comment in the letter to the editor, too. I can't believe how acerbic some of these people's comments have been ... but thankfully, it looks like the crass, ham-handed comments are being balanced out by a lot of well-spoken, supportive people.

Thanks for voting and commenting on the editorial! :)

I haven't had a chance to read all the comments on the editorial yet but I've seen some of the comments on the articles and... *sigh*

People are people. Why can't everyone just let others live their lives as they see fit and not take offense to reading someone else's life experiences and perspectives if they don't match their own. We aren't all the same!

I voted too. It's good to see supporters are well in the lead!

I started reading some of the comments too, and had to stop. I just can't comprehend how some of them spew hate and then claim they're not hateful. I did like the letter from the grandmother though.

Thanks for voting! :)

I really should read the comments sometime soon when I get to a high speed connection. I've read some of the comments on the articles and they really frustrate me. I guess some people aren't happy unless they can berate others who are different and seek to make everyone their clone.
