Dec. 16th, 2007

mandysee_mandydo: (evilman)
I swiped both of these from [profile] nepenthe01 and slightly altered the second:

First - first line of the first post for each month of 2007...
  1. Things are getting better every day!
  2. Yesterday I painted my nails with a very glittery electric blue polish.
  3. I know I was planning to use body hair removal as incentive to lose weight and get in shape, but I absolutely couldn't fucking take it anymore.
  4. Happy Birthday to [profile] quantumswordsmn from Me and Kathy!!
  5. A couple weeks ago during the power outage, [info]painted_wolf and I went to the University library.
  6. This story makes me furious!
  7. We had a wonderful weekend, which I will write more about later.
  8. Finally, for the first time after repeated attempts, I actually stayed awake through "The Lost Boys."
  9. Although I ended up sleeping better, I was still up far too early.
  10. I will neverevereverevereverever buy a vehicle from Benson again.
  11. I've gotten hooked on Freedom Force again, especially now that we have a computer that can handle it.
  12. Tonight [profile] painted_wolf and I helped PFLAG Plymouth out with refreshments for the New Hamshire Gay Men's Chorus concert and attended their excellent tenth season holiday performance.
Second - Year in Review Meme

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any resolutions last year, though I did start changing my eating habits to lose weight and keep it off. So far I've lost almost 70 pounds and still losing. I don't plan to make any more resolutions, but I have planned out certain aspects of my life and changes I will be making and I intend to stick to them. They're far too personal to share openly here.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister gave birth to another daughter last Tuesday. At least she was supposed to. I haven't heard anything so I will be calling soon to find out how she is doing.

Did anyone close to you die?
No. Thankfully not. At least not that I can recall. Which means either it didn't happen or I'm a horrible person.

What countries did you visit?
Sadly my life is not that exciting and my finances are not that stable.

What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Assertive behavior.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Attending therapy. That's a huge step and only the beginning of some very profound and long overdue life changes. Almost as important would probably be negotiating my job to become a full-time, benefitted position with an additional raise on top of that.

What was your biggest failure?
Trusting certain people far too much.

What was the best thing you bought?
I didn't really make any big purchases for myself. Since [profile] painted_wolf and I handle our finances jointly I suppose the purchase of her laptop for school would count.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
So many people have touched my life in very profound and meaningful ways this year. I am not saying this to be narcissistic or egocentric, but I really think my own behavior this year merited celebration. I managed to make some serious self-discovery that has had tremendous impact for the better on my life and I'm glad I finally got my shit together to do something and not just sulk and rip myself apart. It's about damn time. I'm sure those who really know me well understand that I am generally very humble and modest and almost never pat myself on the back or give myself credit even when that credit is due, so it's pretty significant and genuine that I post this now.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Lonweolf and Seeker. Shame on me for putting myself in this situation again even though I knew they wouldn't change. Shame on them for repeating old mistakes and trying to manipulate [profile] painted_wolf to get their way with me.

Where did most of your money go?
The damned lemon of a truck.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My life, for once!

What song will always remind you of 2007?
"Half Jack" by Dresden Dolls

Compared to this time last year, are you:

Happier or sadder?

I think while I've had some serious bummers happen with three particular people in my life that have left my opinion of them drastically altered for the worse, with all the changes I have made and all of the support my friends have given me I would say I am still by far much happier. For once I know who I am, why I'm here and where I'm going in life.

Thinner or fatter?
Thinner!

Richer or poorer?
Right about the same.

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Attending support groups. I still haven't found one and attended. That will change very soon, I assure you.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Not standing up for myself. I spent too much time being passive and then when things got too far and I had bottled things up so much I let loose.

How will you be spending the holidays?
We're having Christmas dinner with my family in Nashua. New Years is still up in the air. We're either spending it with a few friends or just with Candace, Sam and Liam. In either case it will be nice to have time with good friends, many of whom we haven't seen in far too long.

What are some of the most memorable books you read this year?
American Born Chinese, Fox Bunny Funny, A Series of Unfortunate Events and a couple others related to my life changes that I would rather not post so publicly.

What was your favorite TV program?
I don't really watch much TV and most of what I watch is downloaded (yes, shame on me), but... Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Avengers.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Yes, I think at this point I can safely say I hate Lonewolf and Seeker. They've crossed the line and been completely disrespectful and untrustworthy far too many times for me to be that forgiving.

What was the best movie you saw?
Wow. I can't really pick one movie that I think was THE BEST of 2007. I've seen a lot of good movies this year, both old and new.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
That would most certainly be Pepe Deluxe. Thanks [profile] ciliandis! :D

What did you want and get?
Therapy. Seriously.

What did you want and not get?
Privacy and a reliable vehicle.

What did you do on your birthday?
I fasted for 24 hours.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Concept? I have none. I did a lot more experimenting, though.

What kept you sane?
Therapy, good friends and [profile] painted_wolf.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
John Barrowman. *drool*

What political issue stirred you the most?
ENDA and the HRC and Democratic Party's abandonment of transgenders in anti-discrimination legislation.

Who did you miss?
Many people, but most notably [profile] quantumswordsmn, [profile] chenoachem, Candace and Sam.

Who was the best new person you met?
My therapist and my general practitioner. I have a great deal of respect, admiration and appreciation for both!

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
It's important to stand up for myself as soonas it is needed but not be a complete bitch about it. I can be polite and string at the same time and not bottle up my emotions until they become caustic.
mandysee_mandydo: (weekend update)
Today was a wonderful day. Church was canceled so I got more time to visit with Sarah and Randy, which was a very unexpected but welcome surprise! We watched some Adventures of Young Indiana Jones. It was actually pretty good! We had some wonderful conversation. Sarah shared some peanut butter fudge her friend gave her and Randy cooked a delicious cheese ravioli for lunch. We ended up watching some Henry Rollins and Randy loaned us a couple more discs to watch on our own. I forgot how much I really enjoy Henry Rollins. He and Jello Biafra are two amazing people to hear speak. They are both very intelligent and eloquent. More people should pay attention to their spoken word material.

After our visit with Sarah and Randy we went to Karen's birthday party. We had a wonderful time hanging out and chatting and playing with the girls. It ended up shortly before we left with [profile] painted_wolf and me playing frisbee with both of them using paper plates. I so love children. Someday...

Yesterday was a very relaxed day at home for the most part, though we did go out to run some errands. We ended up watching a bunch of stuff. Mostly it was The Avengers and The Life of Mammals. And we sat around listening to music and chatting. I like days like that. They're good for the soul.
