What a morning.

First, let me get this out right away: I'm sitting here listening to a church service running on my channel that is ending with the national anthem. The woman singing can't sing: she's obviously pushing notes out of her range and as a result out of key. On top of that, she's getting the words wrong. Now, I'm not an uber-patriot, but I know that if I'm going to sing our national anthem for an audience I should be respectful enough to know the words. Why is it so hard for people to get this right? I had to do it in grade school.

But beyond that, I am thoroughly amused with my car situation. I bought a Suzuki Sidekick in July and it passed inspection without trouble when I brought it to the garage the previous owner had been using. Here it is in September and I'm confident I'll have little trouble. Wrong! It failed. The rocker panels on both sides in the rear are rotted, as well as the bumper brace. Plus the lower ball joints have excessive play due to normal wear and tear and need replacing. So the car I was confident would pass failed and needs about $1,000 worth of suspension and body work to pass.

Then there's Kathy's car. It's been sitting in the driveway because I was confident it needed something to pass inspection. Considering the state of the Suzuki I figured I was more likely to have the cash to fix the Ford instead. I dropped it off at the garage an hour ago for inspection and just got the call that it passed with flying colors. Fuckadoodledoo!

So Kathy, who has no driver's license, has a fully functional vehicle and I, the only licensed driver in the household, have yet another car in need of serious repair. It'll get repaired because, quite frankly, I only paid $400 for it and it still runs great and other than the ball joints there's no real serious danger of anything functional dying.

Oy. Maybe I should just register all vehicles in Kathy's name. I seem to have the worst luck with automobiles. But I can't help but laugh about it. Even the guys at the garage had a good chuckle!
