Jul. 2nd, 2005 11:38 pmToday was a good yet busy day.
It started with some cleaning and rearranging, which was probably the worst of the day. But things are starting to shape up. I'm sick of having stuff and not too happy about having more stuff, but I'll cope.
But after that we had a visit from Ray, which was very nice. He's trying out games now that he's opening the gaming/comics store in Meredith and we got to help. Yay! We played the Vs. System card game with some Marvel sets. It was oay. The rules had some confusing holes in them, but since he's running a game/comic store it should do well. Apparently it's rather popular right now.
It was a little frustrating that people kept calling while we were trying to play games. They were good calls, though. Kenny called to let us know he was on his way up from New York. Seeker called to ask if he could come over, which was a pleasant surprise. He put Lonewolf on the phone and the two of us talked about their pending home purchase. He's really excited because it's a fixer-upper and he loves him the fixin'. Then Kathy's dad called and we had a brief but pleasant conversation. He's a really cool future father-in-law and certainly busts his hump for a living. The guy is retirement age with all kinds of health issues and still works full time at a farm performing all kinds of physical tasks including mechanics. He makes me feel like a slacker!
But anyway, back to the visit. Ray and I played a game from The History Channel called Anachronism. I highly recommend it. The rules are very simple and easy to learn. You can even learn as you play. It's a two-player card/board game that has five cards per player. You play historical/mythical warriors in anachronistic battles. Each game is five rounds and lasts only a few minutes. The strategy is quite good and you can get a full tournament in within an hour. There are plenty of different choices for characters to play and it looks as though the cardsets are pretty cheap. Then you can get into mixing and matching the weapon, armor, special and inspiration cards to see how these warriors might have fared with different technology or ideas. Pretty cool stuff. It's one of the best American games I've seen in a while. Ray was kind enough to leave a paper board with us and a few cardsets so we can play some more. Word of advice: play Genghis Kahn. He kicks ass!
Seeker came over while Ray was here and he and Kathy played a neat little pirate game where you construct the ships from little punch-out cards and can play a two-player game right from one pack or combine packs to make an even bigger game. It's from WizKids and Kathy says it plays similarly to MageKnight. It looked fun. I'll have to try it some time.
Ray left. The Seeker left. Moments later Kenny arrived. So we went out to eat at the Plymouth Dairy Bar. Oh, was the seafood to die for! I love their scallop platter! Anyhow,, Kathy and I forgot their ice cream portions were humungous and ordered small soft-serve cones. Which were a good half-foot above the cone (no kidding here). Next time we'll get kiddies. And all that for $2!
WBLM was supposedly going to be playing the Pink Floyd portion of Live8 soon but we never heard it. Which annoyed us. When we returned to our apartment we got online and found a stream of the London concert and started watching it. It had already started replaying and was only at REM, so we decided to watch a movie while we waited for Pink Floyd. We watched Hellraiser VI. Bad movie. I would have rather watched Live 8. Oh well. After the movie (which only stopped about half an hour ago) I checked back in on the Live 8 stream and it was only up to Snoop Dogg. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow we'll see Pink Floyd. The photo of Dave Gilmour was of him with a huge freaking smile so who knows. Maybe they'l have set their differences aside for good. Maybe we'll see a new album from the four of them again. Maybe. Would be nice.
Suddenly I am recalling a quote from Wayne's World: "Yeah, and if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass when he hops."
Then again, monkeys just might fly out of my butt so I should probably be careful what I say.
Now I'm typing this blog post and Kenny is snoring on our couch. Kathy is waiting impatiently for midnight so we can do our Crimson Moon thing. Then we'll sleep while Kenny does "research" (surf for porn).
This just in: my sideburns are getting longer. So says Kathy. Now if she only knew me when I had mutton chops. That was scary. Anyhow, my gewerstreminer is waiting for sipping and it's two minutes to midnight (hey, that's an Iron Maiden song!) so I must go. Gotta beat the midnight login rush at CM.
Oh yeah, I'm feeling a little better. Still have the headaches, but duller now thankfully. Stress sucks and so does bottling it in. I need a hobby. Or a hooker. Or both. Or a long camping trip. Or all three. Yeah. Yeah right.
