Ring A Ding A Ling Long
Mar. 27th, 2005 09:43 pmI finally got a new cell phone. My old one was about 2 years old, which is pretty ancient as far as cell phones go. I was lucky to get a day out of the battery, have numbers stored reliably and not have the stupid "ROAM" indicator even when I was in range. It's so nice to have a fully functional phone with polyphonic ring tones.
I renewed our plan finally and added a ShareTalk line for Kathy. We had been talking about adding one for her so she would have her own phone. Not only is it handy for her, but also it helps when I'm out with the phone for her to have a way of calling for an emergency or for people to get in touch with her or even me to reach her or vice versa. Good stuff. We were fortunate to even get similar numbers (just add twenty) making it easy to remember, though not as easy as Chris and Karen (just add one).
Speaking of those two, we helped them move over the past couple days. They found a nice little apartment in downtown Ashland. Ironically enough, Kathy and I cancelled an appointment to view an apartment there after we found the place we're in now. It was cool getting to see what we turned away. Good thing. The apartments are cute, but our current place is much bigger and for $50 less a month. But for them it's a great deal. They're paying $25 less per month and the utilities are included. They were paying more previously, granted for a bigger place, but their heating oil was costing them almost as much as their rent each month, which is several hundred dollars. Yikes!
I still haven't done that digital surveillance work yet for Chuck. I had to be on hand Friday night for the taping of "Mosh Fest" as the space was reserved by PCC3. So I was unable to do it Friday night. The Saturday I had arranged with Chuck a noon meeting to take care of it. He didn't show up on time. He promised me he'd be there a half-hour later. After an hour and a half of waiting I left to help Chris and Karen. Then he calls and wants me to show up and work. Sorry. Should have showed up as promised. At least I had the decency to call when I couldn't make it. He arranged for "some time Tuesday morning." I love the attention to detail here. Makes for easy scheduling. NOT! Of course, the system only holds two-weeks worth of video before it begins rewriting the hard drive, so the longer he keeps putting things off, the worse it gets for him. I'm almost hoping I show up to find the video has been overwritten. Aww. So sad. :(
I really am a cynical fuck when I feel I've been jaded by someone. I should just get over it.
Think happy thoughts. Think happy thoughts.
I was pleased to find others thought of today as just another Sunday, also. Kathy and I were able to get take-out for dinner. And we had choice! Granted, it's still the usual "pizza, subs or Chinese" options that are always available in Plymouth but nonetheless there were options. Good news for us non-Christian folk who happen to also be hungry and away from home.
I love clean laundry. It smells pretty.
Just a quick note about this Schiavo mess: it's a distraction. While it's incredibly disgusting the sort of precedent our activist Congress has set, they're doing it as a political ploy to distract Americans away from the serious ethical/legal issues regarding DeLay, as well as a volley of nasty tidbits of legislation further aimed at reducing freedoms, constructing subordinate classes of citizens and in general strengthening the bonds between church and state. Word to the wise: pay more attention to what isn't being reported in Congress. That's the real danger at hand. Schiavo was a case best left to the family, doctors and judges at the local/state level.
