Seeing as [livejournal.com profile] nepenthe01 posted about her post a year ago that day, I decided I was also curious enough to do so. I must seem like such a sheep, but I have to admit she has a lot of cool ideas. So I looked at my Xanga from a year ago today. Actually, considering the time, I couldn't make up my mind which day I should look at so I looked at both. It was different and similar. I was a lot more relaxed. I actually had days off at home. But I had just discovered Jon was back in town. Ironically enough, I've been visiting him more in the past couple months. I had just received my degree, which was very big and different. Now I'm busy not using it. Well, not true. I'm busy half using it. Though I shouldn't complain. I got to do a bunch of database work today, but more on that later. Ramon was in jail. Still is as far as I know. I had a brand new nephew then and I have a brand new nephew now (from the other sister). Scroll down for a photo!

Since many here probably haven't read my Xanga, I've resurrected the post here for y'all to read.

Another day off. I can't believe it! Sweet action of relaxing. I guess that would be lack of action, though. Hmm.

Out of the blue, I decided to write to a good college friend and find out how he has been. Surprise! He's back in town! Pretty cool. I'm looking forward to seeing him. I also finally got my degree in the mail yesterday. I am officially a Bachelor. And good at Science. Something about Information Technology. Weird.

Quote (well, dialogue) of the Night:

Cast of Characters:
SS = Spirit Seeker
LW = LoneWolf
SRT = Me

SS: "My grandfather was almost casserated when he was in jail."
SRT: "Huh?"
LW: "You mean incarcerated?"
SS: "Yeah, he was almost incarcerated."
LW: "I would think so. That's what it means."
SS: "What does incarcerated mean, then?"
LW & SRT: "It means you're in jail."
SS: "Oh."
SRT: "Do you mean castrated?"
SS: "Yeah! He's missing like 3/4 of it!"

Ah. What a day. It started by raining. Then it was snowing AND raining. Then it was just snow. Then wind and snow. Now it's just windy and cold. Supposedly it'll be 50 degrees in a couple days. I hope so.

My sister's boyfriend got out of jail early for good behavior, only to end up back in the joint for probation violation a week later. All for drugs. Now, I really disagree with the war on drugs. It's not the government's place to tell people what to do or not to do with their personal lives or bodies. The war on drugs creates more crime than it solves. It increases murder rates, fuels embezzlement and many other "societal ills," all of which lead to overcrowded jails. But I digress. The fact is, it's illegal, my sister and this guy have a new child and he goes and does something stupid that puts him behind bars again. Dumb.

Wow. So much complaining. I should write about the good stuff, too. My grandmother is happier now that she isn't living in conflict in my parents' house. Both sides are living easier now, so that's good. My newest nephew Luis is healthy again and doing fine. I saved a bunch of money on car insurance... by not even buying it. Yay! Screw those capitalist swine! Umm... I ate corned beef. Yummy!

These posts also remind me that I liked the Quote of the Day. I shall resurrect it.

Yeah, another long post. So I had a good day. This morning my sister emailed me a photo of Diego, my newest nephew. He's so cute! Here's a photo:

I was selected to receive a full scholarship to the upcoming ACM-NE conference I'm attending for PCC3. That's cool! It makes up for PCC3 having to pay for my hotel room this time. Last time it was in Cambridge so I stayed at my parents' house in Nashua.

I worked at PDG today. I spent half my day fixing and finishing customization of osCommerce for a new client looking to have it integrated into their existing site. I also spent a little time working on the new site design for Indigitas. Oddly enough we've been doing web design for a while but we're just now getting around to making our own website. I've been pushing myself into doing a completely CSS driven layout as it's really the future of web design. No more tables for structure. Hello search engine optimization and sophistication! The best part: hand-coded, baby! When my office computer was restored the web design GUI applications weren't reinstalled so I had the perfect excuse to use my favorite design method: a text editor and imagination. Hells yeah!

The rest of my time at PDG was spent working on another searchable database at About Calories containing fast food nutritional info. We've not gone live with it yet but it's done. I hand-coded the PHP interface to the MySQL database, including writing my own queries. I feel I cheated on the database structure, though, as I used phpMyAdmin to save time and imported data via an uploaded .csv file. I've been there before manually populating a huge database and I wasn't about to manually type over 1,400 records of 17 fields each. But the interface came out fine, matching the USDA database interface I created previously that is currently live on the site. Tomorrow I get to craft an administrative interface for the latest database because, unlike the other that is ocassionally updated by the USDA and made available for download, this one is maintained by us, so I need to make things simple to change for someone not skilled in MySQL and make things available in drop-down menus to avoid variations on single data items due to misspellings, etc. And I get to do a mock-up design for a potential client who is definitely seeking a custom osCommerce install and a potential redesign.

Kyle filmed the high school music honors concert and ceremony tonight. He's been going gangbusters there and his enthusiasm is finally rubbing off on teachers. It looks like after 12 long years we're finally going to have active participation from the high school in the educational access part of PCC3. Yay! There were some issues with the camera that interfered with the first half hour to a limited extent, but fortunately I showed up to check in and we were able to solve the problem.

I decided to hang out in town until Kathy got out of work since by the time I was done with things it was nearly that time. While at the laundry there was this young couple that was just plain dumb. Like I don't know how they're going to survive life dumb. I don't mean to ridicule but I think it should serve as a lesson for us all to just use some common sense. The laundry has a pizza shop in the same building that's usually open late nights (hence the name Late Nite) and shares the lounge area with the laundry. They come into the lounge and look at the door to the pizza shop, which is closed during spring break. The lights are out as is obvious to see through the huge bay window and glass in the door. They wonder if it's open. The girl looks at the posted hours and sees it says they are usually open, so she decides they must be open. She tries the door knob despite the dark pizza shop on the other side visible through the window in front of her face. It's locked. She tries the knob again. It's locked. Meanwhile I'm saying it's closed. She tries the knob again, this time pushing hard against the door trying to force her way into the closed pizza shop. It doesn't budge. Her boyfriend looks at the hours and says they must be open cause the sign says they're open until 2am. Then it finally dawns on them that perhaps the pizza shop is not open. *sigh*

According to Kathy they were also baffled by the powdered soap sold in boxes from a vending machine (refusing to believe that the powdered Tide was actually soap) and believed the washer was broken because it stopped running when they opened the lid.

What's wrong with youth today in America?

Check this lucky survivor out! I can't believe these people are going to sell the little guy.

Oh yeah. I took an online Emotional IQ test and supposedly my emotional weakness is openness while my emotional strength is self-reliance.
