mandysee_mandydo: (Oh My Giddy Aunt!)
So yesterday was hectic, which normally is not a problem. I can handle that. I had some emotional issues simultaneously that made it more challenging, but I was getting that under control, too. Then the truck died. *sigh* That's okay, though. I was stressed but I didn't freak out. I stayed calm (even if very noticeably defeated) and made the phone calls. I am so incredibly grateful that [profile] ciliandis came on short notice all the way from home to pick me up in one town, bring me to Plymouth to get Kathy and then drive us home. While the truck dying sucked, unexpected hang-out time was very much a swellegant thing at that point. Fortunately my evening meeting had already been canceled so I was done with my work for the day. We went shopping and got gas. We stopped for iced coffees and [profile] ciliandis was very kind to treat for that (thank you again so much!). We cooked up a tasty dinner and had some music and conversation before [profile] ciliandis had to leave to get home so she could be up early to go to Boston today.

It was the rear brakes letting go, by the way. I let them go too long. It's my own damn fault so I can't really be upset about anything  or anyone else. Now I have to pay the price (which hopefully isn't too expensive) for procrastination. Thankfully I was coming to a stop in a parking space when the brakes let go so it wasn't perilous or anything. Today I'll be calling the garage across the street from where the truck is parked and see if they can take it in. Hopefully it's just pads and rotors and I'm good to go. I think all that happened was the bad pad(s) in the rear let go. I'm hoping it didn't damage the caliper(s) when they let go.

One interesting event that had little to do with me yesterday but I observed: as I was returning to from Bristol after the first trip, I was on Route 3A north and saw all kinds of smoke. It seemed as though someone had just called 911 and only a volunteer firefighter arrived in his personal vehicle by that time. Apparently a power line fell and sparked a brush fire right next to the road. In a way it was almost an omen or analogy to my day: watch for falling power lines and brush fires as you make your journey, but stay calm and navigate safely and you'll be okay.
