Kenny was up visiting. I felt bad we were hardly around to visit him, but he showed up rather suddenly and we were already committed to working on the days he was up. He's gone now but fortunately he'll be back in a couple weeks. He has to get his new car inspected. He liked our Suzuki Sidekick so much he went out and bought a used Chevy Tracker (same thing) only a couple years newer than ours. It was comfortable and familiar.

One of the members of my Advisory Board for the channels gave me a 19" monitor. Score! Now I have an even bigger screen, which is great considering I'm on the verge of ditching the entertainment center full of audio/vido gear in favor of running everything through the computer. I now also have a DVD-ROM drive with DVD decoder software so we can watch DVDs. Next I'll get a TV tuner card for cable and video in (VCR) and a surround card and speaker system. I can hook my phonograph up to the mic input and the cassette deck up to the line in. Okay, so I won't be getting rid of everything in the entertainment center, but I'll be consolidating everything onto and around the desk. No more big entertainment center. No more large speakers. No more ginormous television. One monitor to rule them all! And CDs played on the computer, too, which will do wonders for my last.fm profile.

Speaking of watching movies on the computer, I bought "Half Dead" today and watched it twice. It's a locally produced zombie horror/comedy film. The cinematography and production were quite good. The acting could use some improvement. The plot was a bit sketchy but it was still a lot of fun. Kathy and I laughed at the idea of beer-swilling, bar-brawling, redneck zombies! There were even a few subtle homages to Evil Dead and one to Blair Witch.

I went to Mall*Wart and bought the conversion kit for Kathy's car to install a different stereo. It worked great! Now we can listen to tapes and CDs in her car. So to celebrate I listened to the new Spin Doctors CD twice: once on the way into town and once on the way home. There's one particular song where Eric Schenkman plays lead on an overdriven and dry guitar. It's relly got me jonesing to return to that very striking dry sound I used to love so much. Time to turn that reverb back down!

On the topic of music, I've been getting this real urge to combine rock with small ensemble. I have this wonderful concept in mind of forming a trio of multi-instrumental musicians who can all play guitar. One would have to be able to play drums. All would have to be able to sing. I envision the occasional guitar trio in a very classical guitar ensemble style and some songs that just rock out Hives style and some that are a bit more folky and some that just get plain out there. If Scoot were still around he'd be great for this because we worked together well, he can play drums, he plays guitar amazingly, he sings and he plays a few other instruments and is always willing to try anything. Then maybe get JD in on bass and guitar an I could play some keys from time to time. That would be the dream ensemble, but it wouldn't have to be exactly us three. I'd be happy for any two other people to join with me on this. I think it would rock! I even envision some wacky mods to traditional rock instrumentation and all-out percussion jams, too. The possibilities and fun are limitless...

Oh yeah. Sleep. I'll be back.
