mandysee_mandydo: (weekend update)
What an amazing weekend! I have to say that this past weekend almost brought me to the point of having a lust for life, something I rarely ever experience. It was a rather euphoric sensation, to be sure. :)

Saturday was a stay-at-home day but not at all lazy. It started with me cooking us a big breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. We spent a lot of time cleaning and getting the place ready for company for New Years. In between fits of cleaning and chores, we watched more of The Avengers. It's been interesting to see how Mrs. Peel's character developed quickly over time. It's been a bit of a challenge because the episodes on the collection discs aren't arranged in chronological order, so we have to look it up and put things in context, but it's starting to become fairly obvious. It's also interesting to watch the dynamic between Steed and Mrs. Peel. I can truly appreciate how the two became the most loved team in the spy-fi genre. We did run out at one point on Saturday because we needed to bring our trash and recyclables to the dump and go grocery shopping. Whle out we got to see Karen and chat for a bit.

Yesterday was a wonderful day. It started with dropping [profile] painted_wolf off to visit Sarah and Randy while I went to church. The service was an informal book share where we all discussed our favorite reads of 2007. There were a lot of interesting books I shall have to check out, especially Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks. One of the other members recommended a couple of interesting short books on how to be more of a people person since that is something he's had trouble with. Actually he's had much of the same troubles I've had with dealing with other people, so I talked with him after the service and he's going to email me a link to the site where he bought them, which is just great! I shared three graphic novels (and I wasn't the only one: someone else recommended Maus). I brought Pride of Baghdad, American Born Chinese and Fox Bunny Funny. I also brought Men as Women, Women as Men: Changing Gender in Native American Cultures, which is a rather clinical yet very interesting anthropological study of Native American culture and gender variance. This book sparked some good dialogue. The graphic novels seemed to be a huge hit, especially Pride of Baghdad. I'm glad I could spread the love of graphic novels!

After church I went around the corner to visit with Sarah and Randy also for a bit, which was nice. We had some fun conversation while Eddie Murphy Raw was on the television. We also watched the trailers for Speed Racer and the new Batman. I want to see both! :)  Randy made us some tasty english muffin pizzas. [profile] painted_wolf and I only had one each since we were about to have lunch with [profile] ciliandis and [personal profile] risingfire. Desarai (their cat) was being absolutely cute! At one point she was on the floor on her back just lying like a dead bug waiting for us to pay attention to her. It was adorable. ^_^

Next we went to Tilton to meet up with [profile] ciliandis and [personal profile] risingfire for lunch at the Tilton Diner. My was it ever crowded! There was much fangeekery over Doctor Who and sharing of the paper hat, leaving us very distracted while we were trying to order. Oh, how it was hilarious! The hilarity ensued throughout the meal, including a barrage of WHAT?!'s, Donna asking if everyone was Prime Minister after seeing a Harriet Jones look-alike, and finally a bit of an indulgence in The Tick fangeekery when [personal profile] risingfire and [profile] painted_wolf got into a silverware face-off and I grabbed for a straw and made a sucking sound FTW!

Next we went on a shopping spree of sorts. First we went to Staples. [profile] ciliandis <3 office supplies, so it was only natural that someone would get her a gift card for Staples and she used it quite well. :) We had fun. Okay, perhaps a little too much fun at some points, especially when it was discovered that they had free sample Post-It notes and a pencil handy. That's when the "Exterminate Me" post-it note was being passed around and we were getting very paranoid of what we had on our backs. After Staples we hit the outlet stores and mostly browsed, though we did buy a couple of things. Lots of clothes and shoes and music and toys. Oh my!

After the outlets we drove over to JoAnn's to shop for crafting stuff, especially so [profile] ciliandis could work on a particular costume. Ironically while trying to find the right fabric for the pants it wasn't until we wandered into the drapes section that we found it. *snicker* Oh wait. I shouldn't snicker, he's my favorite Doctor! Anyhow... so we wandered about the store and on the way out [personal profile] risingfire and [profile] painted_wolf decided to get into a battle with the glittery white branch thingies, leaving [personal profile] risingfire covered in sparkly glitter and a very confused and perhaps annoyed cashier. Meh. Sometimes you just have to be carefree. ;)

That's when we decided we would either go see a movie or get coffee and chat or both, depending on the timing. First we went to the Gilford theater and there wasn't anything of interest there. Then we went back to Tilton to Smitty's and most of the movies were the same. We decided that we might as well go see Golden Compass since we drove all the way back. The problem was they weren't playing Golden Compass anymore and had forgotten to remove it from the marquee. Oi. That's when we decided we would end our night with some Chinese food and conversation.

More Doctor Who fangeekery ensued, only this time with a dash of Venture Brothers thrown in thanks to a remark I made at JoAnn's ([profile] painted_wolf and [profile] ciliandis were going on as different Doctors and [personal profile] risingfire commented she needed a sign that said she wasn't a Doctor, so I did my best Dr. Girlfriend and said "Well I'm a Doctor"). At one point we ended up doing a four-way "Go Team Venture!" The food was really good and the restaurant itse;f was absolutely beautiful! We went to Green Ginger in the same plaza as Staples. From the outside it looks nicer than your average strip-mall location, but once inside it becomes amazingly well designed and decorated. We ended up ordering far more than we thought we would be getting and so brought home lots of leftovers.

Yesterday was the kind of day that just leaves a very satisfied feeling and reminds me how happy and fortunate I can be. I think yesterday was the happiest I've been in a long time, which was nice. Hopefully it was a good day for everyone else, too! Now I must get ready for work and go so I can get the day done and spend time with aunrea, [profile] zeppelinmage and their son tonight! :D
