Sarah Jane Adventures

Tonight we finished watching the first season of The Sarah Jane Adventures. It was actually quite good for a children's show and still very entertaining for adults, though still obviously geared toward children. And it has Sarah Jane Smith. :) I was actually very pleased with the moral questions the characters faced and the messages the writers were sending to children. And the episode "What Happened to Sarah Jane?" totally made me cry, dammit!

[livejournal.com profile] painted_wolf just brought up a great point: the show doesn't talk down to kids and the kids in the show have much more realistic interactions with the adults in the show. I completely agree!

I have a completely unrelated question.

When is [livejournal.com profile] painted_wolf due again?

Just wait until season 2. ;)

The departure of Maria as a regular is something of a bummer, but she wasn't kicked off the show. She reduced her schedule so she could focus on her college entrance exams. She's not absent from season two, but she only in a few episodes.

But season 2 has the brigadier as a guest star! And it's quite possible that "The Tempation of Sarah Jane Smith" may make you cry, as well, fyi.

I can't wait to get my hands on season two! The Brigadier?! Awesome! I was giddy just seeing his photo in one of the first season episodes, but an actual guest appearance rocks! :D

Maria is a great character. I also like how her father progressed as a character, and I can't wait to see if they divulge more of him in season two (like what he does for work, how he has those contacts he mentions in the last episode of season one, etc.).

I admit I'm a little bummed that K-9 is not making more of an appearance and I'm not sure how I feel about Mr. Jones. I'm very amused by how Sarah Jane awakens Mr. Smith ("Mr. Smith, I need you!") because it reminds me of the Emma Peel in color years of The Avengers ("Mrs. Peel/Steed, we're needed").
