Songwriting: A Slight Return
Jun. 22nd, 2007 09:35 pmLately I've taken up songwriting again, which is very cool. I actually resurrected an old song idea in DADGAD tuning, slightly reworked it and did something I've wanted to do with a song for a long time: shifting triads over a pedal tone. It's actually coming along qute nicely, though it definitely shows my pre-Dark-Side Pink Floyd influences and hints of my brief classical training. I'm trying to get the computer to record properly so I don't have a clip of the new and improved version, but here's a clip of the old version. Please disregard the second half. I recorded it at the same time for ease.
Old kinda okay version played too fast...
I'll post a recording of the new version when I can make one successfully. I plan to leave it instrumental with the acoustic guitar as accompaniment. Most likely it'll have electric guitar orchestration over the acoustic accompaniment. I didn't focus on voice leading on the shifting triads added in the new version because the melody is going to be in the guitar orchestration.
EDIT
As promised, here's a decent demo recording that gives you a good idea of where I'm going with this song. The technique is sloppy but it's the best I could do for now first thing in the morning. :P
Newly revised demo version...
